Rainy Day Play & Cuddle Time (VIDEO)

Posted on by Ally Fodero in Dog Boarding, Dog Daycare | Comments Off on Rainy Day Play & Cuddle Time (VIDEO)

Just some cuddle play time in between pack runs at our River Street Dog Daycare / Dog Boarding House. It’s rainy and cold and blah outside today so it’s a perfect time to get silly indoors. I love these guys so much. They’re such a riot! Goofing around with them in the Chill Zone is one of my favourite times of the day. We really get to get close and have some fun together as a pack. Even the shy pups who usually shy away from pack play get right in there for snuggles and belly rubs. Doesn’t get much better than this! Choosing a pet sitter can be very overwhelming. You on 20 different websites and still you have no idea what the people are all about. Unless you want to visit 20 different facilities/homes then you need to be able to narrow down your selection and focus on 2 or 3 that are the best. Then you can schedule your meet & greets and take it from there. Here is an interview list that has been certified by Pet Sitters International with all the questions you should ask and carefully consider. A handy tool to print out and / or copy paste into emails when you are starting your search for the perfect pet sitter! This will tell you if they have a strong daily routine and also whether or not they are around in the evenings. Some places close at a certain time and the dogs are alone throughout the …

The Dog Food Debate: Which One is Right for Your Dog?

Posted on by Ally Fodero in Dog Boarding, Dog Daycare | Comments Off on The Dog Food Debate: Which One is Right for Your Dog?

Over the past weekend I got into a few conversations with different dog owners about what food they feed their dog and what food I think is the best. The asked me as a dog sitter, what food I recommend. I realized that I couldn’t say flat out which food I think is the best because so many of the dogs I care for in the dog daycare and the dogs that I board, have different tastes, allergies, feeding routines (ie. grazing throughout the day vs. eating all at once) that it makes it difficult to choose one specific food across the board. As of late, many people are turning to a raw diet as a healthier, organic and, let’s face it, trendy thing to do. However, even with the best intentions, this doesn’t work well with dogs who don’t finish their food in one sitting. You can’t leave the …

Welcome to Our Home!

Here are the most up – to – date pictures of our new Dog Daycare/Dog Boarding house at 39 River Street, just a few doors down from the Toronto Humane Society. It’s coming along so well and we are just finishing up all the finer details and decor.  The dogs have totally made themselves at home.  As a Pet Sitter, THAT is what I most wanted out of the new home.  A comfortable, cozy, but totally cool and fun atmosphere.  We play like crazy inside & outside and we can also curl up in the pillows and cuddle when the pack needs some well deserved R & R after a long day. My husband and I looked for SO long (almost 2 years) for the right place to call our own.  We went to SO MANY property showings in SO MANY different kinds of buildings.  Most Doggy Daycares are in …

A Pet Sitter’s Best Picks: Top Dog Products

Zen Clipper: These babies not only cut through tough nails like butter but they have a design with which it is nearly impossible to cut the quick.   You just put the tip of the nail into the hole and snip with the proper scissor handles.  So much easier than the plier style handles! I’ve been clipping my boarding dog’s nails forever and these are on my list as MUST HAVE!   The Slo Bowl: Do you have a dog who inhales his/her food?  Sometimes the dogs at our dog daycare eat so fast that they end up brining it right back up.  The Slo Bowl is the answer.  It’s grooves trap the food so the dog can’t get full mouthfuls and instead needs to use his/her tongue to get all the pieces, slowing them down in the process.   Pee Pad Tray: The funny thing about pee pads is …

Dog Kennels vs. Homestyle Pet Sitting & Dog Boarding

Posted on by Ally Fodero in Dog Boarding, Dog Daycare | Comments Off on Dog Kennels vs. Homestyle Pet Sitting & Dog Boarding

All pet owners know how hard it is to leave their pet with someone when they go away. It’s one thing to leave them with a trusted family member or a long time friend, but how do you know what type of place will work best for your dog to ensure their complete comfort while you’re away. There are a couple of things you can ask yourself about your dog before you start looking for the perfect place to board them. 1. What is my dog’s daily routine? Are they on a schedule for wake up/morning walk/feeding times/evening walk/etc.? The daily routine is the cornerstone of most dog’s lives. This is probably the easiest thing for you to ensure they get while you’re away because most Kennels and Personal Homestyle Dog Boarding places will have established a schedule, which they follow daily. Where you might NEED to impress the importance …

Fun Games to Play with Your Dog Besides Fetch

Posted on by Ally Fodero in Dog Boarding, Dog Daycare | Comments Off on Fun Games to Play with Your Dog Besides Fetch

We all know the classic game of Fetch but there are so many more games that you can play with your dog that will stimulate their mind and tucker them out in the process. When we are at the dog daycare house and it’s freezing cold outside we can’t be at our dog run all day long so I went online and found a whole bunch of games that can be played indoors as well that keeps the pack moving and having fun. Here is a list of my favourite games to play with my dog pack: 1. Hurdles/Obstacles I take random things from around the dog daycare and place them in the large playroom in the form of an ‘obstacle course’. I lead the dogs through it a few times until they get an idea of what they are supposed to do. Then, I stand at the opposite end …

Are You Ready to Adopt/Purchase a Dog?

Posted on by Ally Fodero in Dog Boarding, Dog Daycare | Comments Off on Are You Ready to Adopt/Purchase a Dog?

As a Dog Services provider, I am often contacted by people who are thinking of bringing a new dog into their home and want to get an idea of my dog services beforehand. I always ask them some key questions and inevitably we start talking more about what breed of dog they should get, as opposed to dog walking, dog daycare or dog boarding. If more people spent some real time trying to figure out what breed/type of dog is right for their lifestyle BEFORE they adopt/purchase, there might be less dogs who end up at shelters. I always ask the same specific questions and when I started poking around online I discovered a really cool website that has some quizzes that can assist people in choosing the right breed for them. I spent some time taking the quizzes over and over, inputting different answers to change my personality type …
